About the Department

The Department of Philosophy started functioning since the very beginning of our college in 1978 with only General Course and the Honours Course initiated since 2005. The Department of Philosophy offers courses in Under-Graduate standards only. This department is proud to be associated with excellent students and faculty members. A wide range of courses in different branches of philosophy like Indian Philosophy, History of Western Philosophy, Logic, Ethics, Applied Ethics, Contemporary Indian Thought, Contemporary Western Thought, Philosophy of Religion, Social-Political Philosophy, Psychology, Upanisad, Western Epistemology and Metaphysics are being offered by the department in the new CBCS system of the University of Burdwan. At present there are two full time teachers and three guest teachers in the department. All the teachers are very much dedicated, co-operative, and responsible to the students. Our dedicated teachers help the students beyond their classes and use power point presentation to make learning more attractive, and provide study materials, class notes, model question-answer to the college website time to time. The department also arranges various academic and co-curricular activities besides teachings, like remedial coaching classes, teacher-student interactive sessions, student seminars, invited lectures, departmental seminars by renowned resource persons, educational excursion, quiz contest, departmental wall magazine, extempore, departmental exhibition etc to motivate the students and inspire them to explore their innovative thoughts and encourage them to be self-dependent, highly aspirant as they build and upgrade their carrier to the supreme level.
